The MIDI COMMON or MIDI COPY function, facilitates the setting of a common MIDI configuration for all global presets.
The facility to store different MIDI parameters for each global, as implemented on the standard WS version 1.0, is optional.
This function also allows data to be transferred from one WS instrument to another, via MIDI.
It includes VOICE, GLOBAL and ALL files.
In addition to the standard preset ‘DRUMS’ voice used in the WS preset styles and demo’s, there is fully user definable ‘DRUMKIT’ voice.
Using this facility, the individual drum instruments can be remapped, panned, sent to either or both Effect1 or Effect2, tuned and mixed.
This feature applies to the WS software version 1.1 only.
Polyphonic Key Pressure and MIDI Channel Pressure messages are not sent by the WS.
Simply format the SRAM (otherwise any content will be reloaded), and power cycle.
The WX/SX series has slots on the CPU board for 4 x SAMPLE DRAM Chips (hm514400cz7).
To check if fitted, you can see on ‘Disk menu, select SRAM and on Utils Menu, select Free Space’. RAM DISP is Sample RAM.
Two WK4, WK6, WK8, SK76, SK760, SK880 (4,6,8DRAM memory upgrades are available. 2Mb and 8Mb
In order to load either .SMP or .WAV files into a GEM S2, S2/R or S3 , you need to use the Sample Translator feature.
On a non-turbo GEM S keyboard, you can only load the .SMP files with Sample Translator.
To load .WAV files you must have a Turbokit installed, or use Sample Translator
First copy the file that you downloaded from your computer to an MS-DOS formatted floppy disk.
Place this disk in your S2 or S3 and from the Sample Translator display choose the LOAD function on the right hand side of the screen.
Now confirm that the disk is Atari / MS-DOS format by pressing ENTER and you should see a list of the files on that disk,
Use the dial to scroll down to select the required file.
To load any file into Sample Translator place the cursor over it’s filename and press ENTER. The program will now translate the file.
SRAM memory retains information using the internal rechargeable battery. If the rechargeable battery is faulty then the SRAM Disk will not retain information.

Disk IMG files are created using a DOS program called ImagePro, which copies the floppy, disk sector by sector, to create an image file. Image Pro can be downloaded from the members downloads area, together with the user guide. Image Pro copies all versions of GEM disks, including AKAI format.
We have supplied ‘blank’ disk images in members disk downloads to enable WX owners for example, to create specially formatted blank 1.6Mb disks (higher capacity as used on the S Series), which can then be used in the WX enabling greater floppy storage. ImagePro will be required to recreate this floppy disk.
